Parton Stables is situated in the heart of the Stewartry area with picturesque views over Loch Ken and the stunning surrounding countryside. The dwelling was the original stable block for Parton House and the surrounding estate belonging to the Murrays who gradually disposed of their lands and property, culminating in the sale of the lands and buildings to Sir Edward Hunter-Blair in the early sixties.

Parton Stables

A designer/builder Nicholas Walton undertook the conversion and renovation of the stable building into a dwelling which was completed in the early eighties. Many of the original features were retained and the current windows in particular were generated from only two original windows. The living space on the first floor was originally the hay loft. The Stables room/office space still has the original concrete floor and stone wall intact behind and beneath the floor and walls, now modernised. It is understood that the building in a late Georgian style dates back to approximately 1860. The current owners were tenants from 1987, subsequently becoming the owners when the entire estate was sold off in 2000. Since that time the building has been steadily altered and improved.

Living Room & Dining Area

Parton Stables is of solid stone construction, strapped and lined internally under a slated roof. The property has the additional benefit of an adjoining one bedroom annex which is currently let out on a holiday basis through www.airbnb.co.uk. The whole property is set within a classic courtyard and benefits from its own secluded garden grounds.

SELF-CONTAINED ANNEX

The self-contained accommodation is a spacious double room set on the ground floor within this unique Georgian house. The current owners operate this annex as holiday accommodation through www.airbnb.co.uk booking system. We are informed that the rental monies from the annex are on average about £8,000 pa, which provides a useful income stream.

This system attracts domestic renewable heat incentive payments at 8.4p per KW hour. The system can be fed with either pellets or logs. This system provides a useful secondary income stream of about £618pm for the next 4.5 years for utilising a renewable source.

This area of the Stewartry attracts tourism and boasts a wealth of wildlife with the nearby Loch Ken having regular inhabitants such as ducks, swans, red kites, etc. Adjacent to Loch Ken is the RSPB bird reservation, the “Galloway Kite Trail” and the Galloway Forest Park, which offers visitors many opportunities to walk, climb, cycle, bird watch and to experience the UK’s first dark sky park.
